What is Counseling Astrology?

Counseling Astrology blends astrological insight with compassionate guidance to illuminate the soul's journey. Luna uses the chart as a reference for deeper conversations, allowing her to identify subconscious patterns and karmic influences that shape one's experiences with efficiency and care. This process fosters self-awareness, helping individuals untangle internal conflicts and align with their dharma. Rooted in teachings from evolutionary astrology and Buddhist philosophy, sessions offer a sacred space for healing, self-discovery, and personal growth.

 

What does a Birth Chart reveal about a person? 

From an evolutionary perspective, a birth chart reveals a person's "map of the soul," indicating the unresolved karma from previous incarnations and their potential for growth in the current lifetime. It suggests the specific directions and challenges a person needs to address to move towards a more evolved state. The placement and sign of all the planets in your chart also reveal the different aspects of your psyche and how each part of you interacts and expresses itself in the biography of your life.

Do I need to have astrological knowledge to get a reading with Luna? 

Most people have a very basic understanding of Astrology without even realizing it. Ask anyone what their Star Sign is and they will tell you! Rest assured, Luna will adjust her language to accommodate the level of knowledge of the individual. To learn the basics of astrology before your session, watch this video (coming soon). 

 

Do you do Fortune Telling with Astrology? 

Fortune Telling is an archaic term for what we now refer to as Predictive Astrology.  With any situation there is a spectrum of possibilities that may arise. The focus of Luna’s work is not to predict biographical events, but to help the client become more cognizant of the evolutionary opportunities that are available to them in accordance with Divine Timing. In this way, we use the gift of foresight to better prepare ourselves, adopting the right attitude that can allow us to meet emerging circumstances with open arms and acknowledgement of what is being offered.

 

What type of mind set is best suited to getting the most out of a reading with Luna?  

When approaching a reading with Luna, one assumption trumps all: you cannot change the conditions of the external world but you absolutely can change how you respond to it. Within this assumption is a paradox - "when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Ultimately the appearance and quality of external circumstance are not objective but are reflective of one's own state of mind. This is why we concentrate our attention on the psyche, using our experience of reality as a mirror to what is going on inside.

Is Astrology real? 

To say astrology is not real would be like saying the moon has no influence over our lives. And yet the cycle of the moon pulls the tides, changes the behaviour of wildlife, is used to inform planting schedules and is in perfect synchronicity with the female menstrual cycle. Because the moon is a celestial body that is closest to the earth, naturally we see its influence more visibly and with reference to the physical body. Following the same premise, the outer planets still influence our behaviour, yet their effects are more subtle and are with reference to the psyche. The further out we go, the more transpersonal their influence becomes (e.g. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto). 

 

There are many types of Astrology, which type of Astrology does Luna practice?

Luna practices Evolutionary Astrology - a branch of western astrology that uses the tropical system, aligning the zodiac signs with the seasons. The house system used is Placidus which is the most widely used system amongst western astrologers. 

 

What distinguishes Evolutionary Astrology from other types of Astrology?

Themes of Evolutionary Astrology include: understanding the soul's journey across lifetimes, exploring the evolutionary purpose of the individual in their present life, and using astrology as a road map for soul growth. In this way, Evolutionary Astrology places a great deal of attention on the placement of Pluto and the Lunar Nodes in the birth chart while other types of astrology approach the chart with a different focus. 

 

What is the Soul? 

In the West, the Soul is considered to be the undying part of a living being that carries on across lifetimes. It may be understood as the disseminated pieces of God/Spirit - the One Source from which all life came from and will return to. When we “pick up the pieces of our soul”, we are  retrieving the parts of ourselves that have been pushed out of our consciousness through the will of the ego.  These parts lay dormant in the unconscious and need to be reintegrated into our psyche so that we can become whole. The Whole Self welcomes everything, and yet naturally the ego is compelled to push certain parts away in an attempt to avoid pain. 

 

As we grow spiritually, we have the capacity to digest the harder truths that are intrinsic to the human condition. Namely, this involves accepting the bitter-sweet truth of impermanence - all that arises shall pass. As the mind stretches its self-concept beyond a singular lifetime, the ego is able to loosen its grip and let the soul’s desires for growth take the lead. Although the soul is considered “immortal”, this too is a relative truth. The Soul may live a thousand lifetimes before it completes its evolutionary journey as a so called "soul". Whether this bandwidth of time lasts a thousand years or a billion years, the energetic structure of the soul shall also pass.

How does the western view of the Soul differ from the Buddhist understanding of the Soul? 

From the previous description, one can see how eventually we come up against a limitation in the concept of the immortal soul. The soul is undying, but this is only true relative to our given frameworks. Buddhism denies the existence of a permanent, unchanging soul. Instead, it posits that consciousness is a continuous stream of mental phenomena, each moment arising and passing away. 

 

Buddhists use the term "mind stream" (citta-saṃtāna) to describe the continuity of mind and awareness, rather than a permanent soul. The mind stream concept provides a sense of continuity from one life to the next, like a flame passed from one candle to another. This continuity is driven by karma, which is the causal mechanism that shapes our experience and influences our future lives.

 

What is Karma? 

According to Buddhist philosophy, the concept of karmic imprints (samskaras) helps to explain how past actions and experiences shape our current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These imprints are link ingrained habits or tendencies which influence how we perceive and interact with the world, contributing to the ongoing flow of the mindstream. Because the mindstream is continuous, whatever state of mind you left your body in your last lifetime will inevitably inform the psychological climate you will come to inhabit in the next lifetime. This is why Evolutionary Astrology is so interested in understanding the karma the individual is here to resolve. When we understand the root of our ingrained habits and tendencies, we can learn to respond in a different way and begin walking the path of our Dharma. 

 

What is Dharma? 

To the Buddhists, dharma refers to the universal truth and way of life that is free from the bondage of karma. When we are no longer in a state of reactivity (generating samskaras), we are free to develop qualities of the bodhisattva. The qualities of the bodhisattva include cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity towards all beings. The aspiration of the bodhisattva is to utilize whatever fruits that are cultivated from one's efforts to serve humanity for as long as there is suffering.

The following passage from the Buddha 2500 years ago helps to distill the core essence of the teachings: 

​

The thought manifests as the word,
The word manifests as the deed,
The deed develops into habit,
And the habit hardens into character.
So watch the thought and its way with care,

And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings.

 

Do I have to believe in reincarnation to receive a reading from Luna? 

The key concepts of Evolutionary Astrology include reincarnation however it is not necessary that you believe in this philosophy. The objective of an astrology reading is not to convert you into a particular doctrine or spiritual ideology. Ultimately it is up to the individual to determine the value of their belief systems and what resonates as true.

Logistics 

 

Where are meetings undertaken? 

Where feasible, meetings can take place in person otherwise they are held using Zoom Video Conference. Please make sure you have dowloaded Zoom software onto your computer in advance of the session. 

 

Can I change the date and time of my booking? 

Yes, you are encouraged to make a booking even if that time slot may be subject to change. Sometimes the time slot may be listed as available however it may need to change due to any number of reasons.  I welcome flexibility from both ends of booking a session. 

 

What is your cancellation policy? 

If you decide to cancel your session after making payment, you will be refunded 50% of your payment. If you decide to get a reading later on, 50% of your payment will be put towards your reading. 

 

Do I have to book and pay online? 

If you live in Canada, you may prefer to pay via e-transfer or cash if approved by Luna. Reach out to Luna via email to discuss your payment preferences. 

 

Do you offer Payment plans?

Bookings are made online and are to be paid in full prior to your reading. For those experiencing financial hardship, discounts and payment plans are available upon request.
